LA Muscle is a London based supplement company founded in 1998. The company is well known and popular with a focus on bodybuilding supplements. The original Norateen supplement is no longer available and has since been replaced with Norateen Heavyweight II.
Norateen Heavyweight II is not the same as original Norateen, a well known LA Muscle prohormone supplement no longer available. Instead, it is based on mainly herbal ingredients, and although the advertising claims it will work very fast in improving T levels and muscle building, the scientific evidence for the ingredients suggests otherwise. One good point is that side effects seem minimal, although this could be due to the fact that this supplement is rather underpowered.
Compared to many supplements on the market, Norateen Heavyweight II looks pretty safe and any side effects are likely to be minimal.
These may include headaches, dizziness, insomnia, abdominal bloating, nausea, or lowered sodium levels.
It may be important for some customers to know that Methoxyisoflavone can cause a false reading for cannabis in urine tests.
All LA Muscle supplements are expensive. Norateen Heavyweight II is no exception.
Buy from the LA Muscle website and 1 bottle of 180 capsules (1 month’s supply) costs £69.95. You can make savings on larger orders. Buy 3 bottles and it costs £150.00.
UK shipping is free on orders over £50.00. International shipping is free on orders over £100.00 but otherwise is very expensive.
For example, shipping to Australia is £28.60 and bizarrely, shipping to some European countries such as Croatia a whopping £35.48. We have actually seen flights to Croatia from London offered cheaper than this, and have no idea where LA Muscle are getting these rates from.
You can also buy Norateen Heavyweight II via Amazon UK for the same price as the website. It is available from Amazon USA from various sellers for around $95.00.
We are disappointed with Norateen Heavyweight II. The glossy advertising that seemed to promise so much, just fell apart as we looked further into this supplement. Norateen Heavyweight II contains some popular ingredients some of which may have worked had they been in sufficient quantities but at such low serving sizes, it seems very unlikely. And Methoxyisoflavone, as a currently hot ingredient, probably does not work as well as claimed, but with only 10mg per capsule, you are never going to find out with this supplement.
In our opinion, LA Muscle is still looking back to Norateen, their earlier prohormone supplement and the advertising that claims that sports professionals wanted this banned is bizarre. Taking Norateen caused a pro rugby player to fail a WADA test, so we can’t see that this is anything to be proud of. We also have struggled to find any reference to the best supplement award from Men’s Health that didn’t originate from the LA Muscle advertising.
LA Muscle has a slick, glossy image, and is a well known British supplements company. But it seems that Norateen Heavyweight is all style over substance. We are disappointed with our findings because we wanted to believe in the hype but all things considered we approve this supplement.
We do not recommend Norateen Heavyweight II to the Watchdog readers.
LA Muscle Norateen Heavyweight II is the LA Muscle flagship product. According to the product advertising, it is so strong that the BBC rugby panel has called for its ban, yet in the same sentence, it seems that this supplement is suitable for all including beginners. Go figure!
The first thing to know is that Norateen Heavyweight II replaces an earlier product simply called Norateen. This contained a chemical compound called 19 Norandrosterone which is a prohormone linked to Nandrolone, an anabolic steroid. It was original Norateen that caused the controversy, and not Norateen Heavyweight II.
19 Norandrosterone is banned by the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) and back in 2002, Plymouth Albion rugby international Russell Thompson was suspended from rugby for two years after mistakenly taking Norateen and testing positive for this banned substance. This led to calls for greater drug testing in rugby and criticisms over the supplement. Source
These days LA Muscle no longer sell original Norateen, but the company still provide a range of muscle building supplements that reference the Norateen name and are obviously using the past reputation of Norateen in their current advertising.
Norateen Heavyweight II does not contain banned substances, so can be used if you take part in competitive sport. It does contain a range of muscle building compounds such as D Aspartic Acid (DAA), a plant steroid called Beta-Ecdysterone and Diindolylmethane, a plant substance that is supposed to reduce oestrogen.
One of the principle ingredients is Mucuna Pruriens, a natural extract derived from the Velvet Bean which grows in Africa. This contains a substance called Levodopa, a precursor of dopamine and is sometimes taken as a legal high. More importantly for this supplement, two studies have shown that it can raise testosterone levels.
The key to the fast working claims is Methoxyisoflavone, which many supplement sellers are touting as a miracle ingredient because it is supposed to work fast and without side effects with noticeable effects after just 30 days. There has been a lot of attention to this compound because some testing has shown that it works to increase muscle mass rapidly without hormonal side effects. There are also stories going around that Methoxyisoflavone being used as a natural enhancer of lean tissue in livestock farming. Check out the ingredients tab to find out more.
LA Muscle is a well known UK supplements company which has been in operation since 1998. You can visit the store, watch the LA Muscle TV channel – all fast cars, muscles, and attractive bodies, and buy the supplements from a wide range of outlets. Glossy and professional, LA Muscle looks like the real deal.
According to the advertising, Men’s Health magazine voted Norateen Heavyweight II the best testosterone booster. While this is probably true we can find no record of this award.
You can use Norateen Heavyweight II with LA Muscle protein powders and other LA testosterone boosters and sports supplements, according to the product information. We have covered LA Muscle supplements in previous reviews including LA Muscle Bloat No More and LA Muscle REPO.
According to the advertising, Norateen Heavyweight II has made the national media. It was “voted as the strongest ever muscle builder” by Men’s Health Magazine, as seen on SKY TV and even the BBC’s rugby sports panel wanted it banned for being too strong.
“Norateen Heavyweight II is the strongest legal and safe natural muscle & strength builder in the world suitable for beginners and advanced trainers. Results are guaranteed from the very first day when you will see your strength increase by at least 10-20%”
It is a secret formula! It will make you join the “in crowd elite of bodybuilders!”
“The “secret” supplement that many top bodybuilders have been using for the past 2 decades. Norateen Heavyweight II has been producing MIRACLES for even the hardest gainers. Norateen Heavyweight II takes the stress out of getting big. You don’t have to worry about hours of daily grind in the gym, tons of extra meals and a thousand other “necessities” for getting big! It’s time to be part of an elite crowd and try Norateen Heavyweight II! NO RISK TO YOU!”
It is used by celebrities too,
“Celebrity trainers recommend Norateen Heavyweight II to their clients to ensure they get the quickest results. When money is not more important than results and you don’t want to waste your money by buying ineffective and unproven products, you buy Norateen Heavyweight II.”
There is a 12-minute video that you can watch that makes these points over and over again.
No. It is not going to work as described. This supplement contains low levels of ingredients, and most of these are unproven to work in the muscle boosting way as claimed. We can see no real evidence at all that this supplement will live up to the claims in the advertising, despite the convincing text and before and after pictures. We admit to feeling quite shocked that this supplement is so unproven and ineffective behind the hype. We did expect better from this flagship product from a well known, and we thought, respected company.
Serving size is equal to one capsule.
In fact, the only evidence for Methoxyisoflavone is flimsy. Animal testing has been carried out including a swimming test that saw the animals weighed down with weights and pushed to exhaustion. Apparently, they did not drown as quickly as the animals on the placebo. Make of that what you will but we don’t find it very convincing.
There has been preliminary testing on humans which looks a little better. One test suggested that Methoxyisoflavone may cause fat reduction and increase muscle mass if 800mg were taken over 8 weeks. However even if this were true, and it is not strictly proven, we cannot see it doing much here, because each capsule contains only 10mg of Methoxyisoflavone.
Methoxyisoflavone is supposed to work well with Beta-Ecdysterone. However, a scientific overview of these two supposedly synergistic ingredients noticed that it made no difference at all between the group taking it and the placebo group. Source
