We look at Hydroxycut SX7 to find out whether this one is worth a try and if it is safe.
We are unimpressed with Hydroxycut XS7.
It seems ineffective for fat loss and contains some harmless sounding ingredients such as nutmeg and sage, which can come with some very real and dangerous side effects if taken to excess.
Customer reviews are not very encouraging either. We have never seen a fat burning pill before that caused you to lose energy and feel lethargic but this side effect is too common to be a one off effect.
One 70 capsule container of Hydroxycut XS7 (approximately 1 month’s supply) costs $30.00 plus shipping to US addresses. A 140 capsule bottle costs around $65.99.
We can see no possible reason why anyone should bother with this supplement. Yes, some people have possibly lost fat with it when combined with a regime but it is highly possible that their weight loss is down to their own efforts and not this pill.
We feel that Hydroxycut XS7 is too potentially dangerous and too ineffective to add to our approved list. It is an easy decision. We reject Hydroxycut XS7.
Hydroxycut SX7 is a new diet supplement on the market. It comes with some powerful advertising including the claim that it is “The Most Advanced Super Thermogenic” and it is described as an “unparalleled sensory experience”. This last statement makes it sound more like an illegal drug than an over the counter supplement so we were interested to see what this pill contained.
It contains seven active ingredients all based on natural herbal supplements. The principle ingredient is Green coffee bean extract but other ingredients include Myristica fragrans – more usually known as nutmeg and Salvia Officinalis or Sage. Hydroxycut SX7 also contains caffeine, green tea, cocoa seed extract and alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) a nutrient found in vegetables
Of course, natural herbs and ordinary looking substances, even the ones that are familiar can have strong effects if you take enough of them.
There are serious concerns about the safety and effects of taking nutmeg supplements for example, even though this ingredient sounds reassuringly cosy and home baking related!
According to the product advertising, this supplement will provide you with “clean energy and focus” effects that body builders value to help them train for longer and harder.
To take Hydroxycut SX7 take one capsule, once a day for the first two days. Increase this to one capsule twice daily for day three and four.
Following that, you can take two capsules in the morning and one in the afternoon.
You are advised to use for 60 days in combination with diet and training.
Take the capsules with water 30-60 minutes before your biggest meals (breakfast and lunch) and do not exceed three capsules within a 24-hour period.
MuscleTech is a well known supplement company, which caters mainly to the bodybuilding and sports nutrition market. Based in Ontario, Canada, their products are available all over the world and they are a familiar name to many.
Hydroxycut is also a very familiar name to US consumers.
Hydroxycut is a brand name that has been around since 2002 and is not without controversy.
Hydroxycut contained ephedra prior to the FDA ban in 2004 but following this, the revised formula was still a matter of serious concern and was linked to 23 reports of serious heath damage to liver and one death.
After 2009, the supplement was reformulated again and this time contained ingredients such Lady’s mantle Olive extract and Cumin. We covered the various Hydroxycut supplements in a previous investigation and were not impressed with what we saw.
Hydroxycut SX7 claims that the principle ingredient Green coffee bean extract is a “scientifically dosed key weight loss ingredient”.
The advertising includes two studies in the form of graphs that apparently prove the weight loss effects of Green coffee. In one study, the subjects lost on average 10.9lbs over the placebo group. Over just three weeks, they lost 3.7lbs.
Green coffee bean is widely touted for weight loss, following exposure of this ingredient on the Dr Oz TV show.
This looks convincing but the problem is that many of the so-called clinical trials have been found to have had serious flaws and inconsistencies in their testing methods and using green coffee to promote weight loss is not proven to work.
According to MuscleTech,
This new super extreme, patent-pending weight loss formula combines 7 cutting-edge ingredients into one insane assault on your senses!
It is described as a,
unique combination of ingredients is something entirely new to the market, and it provides an unparalleled sensory experience that will have you coming back for more!
Do you really want an “insane assault” on your senses, just to lose some weight?
It probably is not true but it seems overblown and unnecessary to claim this, especially in view of this product’s dangerous history.
At first glance, we thought that Hydroxycut SX7 actually looked fairly safe which made a change for a supplement with this name.
How wrong we were! Nutmeg may sound harmless but don’t be fooled by its cuddly Christmas pudding image. It is this ingredient that presumably is supposed to cause the insane assault on your senses and it has been known to cause side effects such as vomiting and even hallucinations.
You may notice the caffeine content – green coffee bean does also contain caffeine and there are concerns about taking sage long term. None of these ingredients will add up to weight loss.
Green coffee extract remains unproven to cause anything other than a potentially minimal effect. We like the green tea / caffeine combination but the green tea is in very inadequate quantities so probably will not be effective.
Some people seem to like this diet pill but a high proportion of negative comments mention tiredness and lethargy as a side effect, which is not good for a supplement that claims to boost energy.
When it comes to weight loss, we cannot really see how it will work. The principle ingredient is green coffee extract and there is no real evidence that this does much beyond minimal weight loss. The nutmeg is supposed to cause some sort of psychotropic effect but beyond some reported “weird feelings”, most people who have tried it have just complained of feeling tired.
Hydroxycut SX7 has never been tested and some of the evidence for the individual ingredients looks flimsy. We have serious concerns about its safety too. The product advertising advises you to stay on this diet pill for 60 days over which time these ingredients will build up in your system.
Some varieties of sage are known to cause liver damage if taken long term and MuscleTech have already been cautioned about their previous versions of Hydroxycut, which have been linked to causing serious medical problems and at least one death.
Hydroxycut SX7 is a diet pill that claims to give you energy and assault your senses.
One serving is equal to one capsule.
More rigorous trials are needed to assess the usefulness of Green Coffee Extract as a weight loss tool

We looked into customer reviews and found that some people, although not all, had experienced side effects.
The most common one was a “weird feeling” combined with sleepiness.
This customer reported;
I felt pretty tired and odd when I started using it. I thought my body needed to get used to it. Well after a week and a half of using it. I found myself feeling “weird in the head” and super tired!! No energy at all! I actually had to leave work in the middle of the day because I felt so light headed and super sleepy.
Other reviewers have notice the same effects.
Thought it may kick in soon but only got worse, no energy and felt weird and sometimes dizzy feeling.
And
In fact, one day I took two pills in the afternoon and 30 minutes later I fell asleep and had a nice power nap.
This is not going to do much for your focus or your exercise performance!
Some reviewers have experienced headaches. One customer wrote;
Have to take 2 at a time to feel anything then after they wear off get a headache. Seems like they do more harm than good
Judging by the ingredients list, potential side effects may include;
Caution:
Do not take if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive. Avoid if you suffer from a mental condition such as depression and do not take if you have a history of substance abuse.
Do not take if you are sensitive to stimulants due to the caffeine content. Avoid if you have a heart related medical condition or suffer from high or low blood pressure. Speak to your doctor first if you are taking prescription medication. Some of the ingredients contained in Hydroxycut XS7 will cause drug interactions.
The HydroxycutXS7 information does not provide any warnings to consumers, which is a very serious omission.
Yes, and it is a mixed bag with some customers positive about this supplement. However many of these customers appear to have received a free product to review so may be biased.
One positive reviewer stated;
This product is AWESOME!! No jitters and gives a nice boost of energy. I would highly recommend to anyone that wants to start as a weight loss supplement.
Another reviewer felt it curbed his appetite;
It seems it took a few days to work but my appetite is next to nothing. I now eat to fuel my body instead of eating like an idiot. I have lost 8lbs in 2 weeks eating healthy foods because I do not have the cravings I used to have.
This reviewer is also working out in the gym but has not experienced the sleepy effect felt by many other customers.
One customer is enjoying these pills – maybe a little too much bearing in mind that the advice is only to take 3 every 24 hours.
On this product for a week now. Love them. I pop them like skittles. Can’t get enough of them. Bought enough for a year
This sounds downright dangerous.
Some customers were not as pleased.
This is the worst fat burner I ever tried and the most expensive. 0 value for money, I’m a distance runner and this did nothing to increase my energy. I felt lethargy all day, and didn’t drop a pound
Finally, this review sums up what so many reviewers have said;
I tried it for weight loss and it didn’t work. I seen the reviews on how it gave others energy but it made me tired.
