Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals is an American supplements company based in Georgia and although the company is well established and their supplements are quite well known, this company looks extremely dodgy. We have covered Hi-Tech products in previous reviews and have found that many of their supplements come with real health risks.
Hi-Tech 1-AD is a legal prohormone supplement that is supposed to increase strength and muscle mass and is a new version of an earlier product which contained now banned ingredients.
If you are already a fan of prohormones and feel that this type of product helps you build muscle, you may find that it is worth a try. However, taking prohormones seems to be a dangerous route to steroid abuse and in our opinion is just not worth the risks to health.
Potential side effects include; increase in aggression, mood swings, increase in acne, nausea and vomiting, changes to libido and sexual performance, likely to cause prostate problems later in life, headaches, dizziness, breast enlargement, hypertension , liver damage with prolonged use.
Hi-Tech 1-AD is on sale from various outlets so you can shop around for price.
If you buy from the official Hi-Tech website, 1 x bottle of 60 capsules costs $89.95. Buy from Lucky Vitamin and the same 60ct bottle costs $59.95.
You can shop around for deals. One company (A1 supplements) is offering a 50% reduction on a second bottle with the original price set at $59.95.
Hi-Tech 1-AD is not easily available to customers outside the USA.
We are concerned about Hi-Tech 1-AD. This prohormone supplement is expensive and there is no real evidence that it will help you build muscle and get the gains you require. In addition, the whole world of prohormones is a shadowy area when it comes to legality with new prohormone compounds being added to the banned list on a regular basis. This is because prohormones are not safe. These types of supplement appeal only to a small niche of hardcore bodybuilders but can cause far reaching side effects such as liver damage and prostate issues.
The bottom line is that we don’t trust Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals! This company have past form in peddling dangerous supplements and flouting the law. In our opinion, this supplement is typical of their product range and we would never recommend anyone to try it.
Hi-Tech 1-AD is a supplement that Hi-Tech claim will increase testosterone levels and boost muscle growth. This is the “holy grail” of many bodybuilders and athletes who see increased testosterone as increasing strength. Many “ordinary” men who are not necessarily bodybuilders also want to increase testosterone in order to increase manliness and get themselves a six pack.
Hi-Tech 1-AD is a new version of an earlier product which was banned by the FDA. Original Hi-Tech 1-AD was known as a delta supplement and contained androstenedione and 1-androstenediol, two steroid hormones banned for supplement use under the Anabolic Steroid Control Act.
These days androstenediol is classed as a schedule 111 controlled substance and is only available as a prescription medicine. According to the Hi-Tech product information androstenediol was the “best legal hormone product ever produced” so the company are obviously still smarting after the ban.
Today, Hi-Tech 1-AD contains two components. The first is 1-androstene-3b-ol-17-ol, 17 -one Deaconate. This compound is often known as 1 DHEA or 1 Andro and is described by the Hi-Tech marketing as the key component and prohormone.
A prohormone is a compound that participates in causing a chemical reaction to produce another compound, in this case androsterone. Androsterone is an androgen, a male hormone which converts to testosterone in the body.
Many bodybuilders take prohormones to enhance muscle building, strength and endurance within a short time span. Most are illegal because of the adverse effects but at the time of writing 1 Andro is openly available and within the law.
The second component is 5a Hydroxy Laxogenin Acetate a plant based anabolic compound discovered in the 1960s, which according to some users has a muscle and testosterone boosting affect similar to Anavar.
Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals is based in Georgia, USA. The company manufacture and market their own supplements and also sell via many of the bodybuilding supplement retailers such as GNC.
Hi-Tech Pharmaceutical have past form in using controversial and illegal ingredients in their supplements, as well as fighting with the FDA. In 2013, US marshalls acting on behalf of the FDA seized $2 million in supplements from Hi-Tech that contained the controversial and now banned stimulant ingredient DMAA (1,3-Dimethylamylamine).
We have covered Hi-Tech supplements before, including Jack’d Up, a dangerous supplement that still contains the now banned DMAA. How is this company getting away with it? The simple answer is that we just don’t know.
According to the product advertising, the key benefits to taking 1-AD are;
The product information explains the function of the supplement,
“1-AD® by Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals is based upon a naturally occurring metabolite for many animals including man that has properties far different from standard testosterone in the body.”
The advertising then has a little moan about the banning of steroids and given that Hi-Tech has had numerous run ins with the FDA, this seems like a defence of their own actions.
“In January 2005 the supplement industry witnessed the banning of the best natural legal hormonal products ever produced. We are referring to the 1-Test & 1-AD family of supplements. These “delta-ones” (as they were referred to) changed the entire legal hormone market.”
“There was nothing like them before their introduction and there has been nothing like them since.”Delta-ones” included the original 1-AD’s (1-androstenedione and 1-androstenediol) and the 1-test esters and ethers. Hi-Tech’s 1-AD® converts to 1-Testosterone is more of a mild hormone that will give you cleaner gains and dramatic strength increases.”
Finally it gets around to the ingredients contained in this supplement,
“1-Androsterone aka 1-androstene-3b-ol-17-one is still available on the U.S. market and is the key component of 1-AD®. In a recent study released in the Journal of Applied Physiology, the oral prohormone 1-androstene-3b-ol-17-one was found to be as potent milligram-for-milligram to Testosterone enathate, the gold standard for Testosterone products!”
“Very few dietary supplements have been subjected to a clinical study. However, the active prohormone 1-androstene-3b-ol-17-one was the subject of a clinical study at the West Texas A&M University, the California Baptist University and the University of Texas at Austin.”
“The results showed 1-androstene-3b-ol-17-one to be significantly more powerful than it would appear structurally. The 9 males gained an average lean mass of 10.4 lbs and an increase in strength of 92.2 lbs in total load on bench/squat/deadlift. These are significant gains from a prohormone. The researchers concluded that the prohormone supplement contributed to robust improvements in muscle mass and strength in resistance trained.”
Really? This so-called evidence is based on the effects of this formula on just 9 people? That’s just not conclusive in our opinion.
If you use Hi-Tech 1-AD in combination with an intensive work out program and high protein diet you may feel that this supplement helps you achieve your aims. However the world of pro hormones is not particularly well researched and although many body builders use them, this group is notorious for taking just about anything to get results.
Safety is never an issue and unless you are part of this world yourself we advise caution when it comes to using this supplement. In addition, it is hard to find out any real medical evidence that supports the claims made by legions of bodybuilders that taking prohormones is good for muscle building and strength.
Speaking on a bodybuilder forum site, some of the hardened anabolic steroid users feel that Hi-Tech 1-AD is weak by comparison. In addition, some users advise that Hi-Tech 1-AD is the not supplement for inexperienced prohormone users.
Serving size is equal to one tablet.
We have not managed to find any customer feedback for Hi-Tech 1-AD so we cannot bring you true life experiences of taking this supplement. However, taking prohormones can be dangerous to health.
