Dymatize Super Protein Amino is a protein amino acid supplement, that according to the advertising delivers a complete spectrum of all proteinogenic amino acids in capsule form. This supplement used to be known as Dymatize Super Protein 6000, and as far as we can see is the same as this earlier version.
Protein and amino acid supplements have been on sale for a long time and are considered to be good for building and repairing muscle so are especially popular with athletes and bodybuilders. We take a look at this protein supplement and see if it is worth a try.
Dymatize Enterprises is a US supplements company based in Dallas Texas, but the company seems to have a strong presence in the UK and Europe. If you go to the UK site, buttons at the top of the page translate the product information for German, Swiss, and Austrian customers.
You can buy Dymatize supplements from stockists in many other European countries. UK customers can also buy on Amazon.
Dymatize Super Protein Amino is a protein supplement in tablet form, which contains essential and non essential amino acids. Although a capsule sounds convenient, many customers have complained about the size of these tablets, and the fact that you have to take 6 a day. In addition amino acid quantities here are much lower here than amounts you would generally find in a protein powder.
That said amino acids help build proteins that will in turn help with muscle forming and muscle repair, and we like that this supplement comes with a clear ingredients profile that may help do this job. Like powdered whey and milk derived supplements, Dymatize Super Protein Amino contains dairy produce so you should be aware of this if you are lactose intolerant.
Although generally considered safe, branched-chain amino acids can cause side effects, such as fatigue and loss of coordination.
Branched-chain amino acids should be used cautiously before or during activities where performance depends on motor coordination, such as driving.
Dymatize Super Amino is not overly expensive, and because it is on sale via various retailers you can shop around for price.
We found the supplement on sale at Amazon. Bottles come in three rather odd sizes of 180 tablets, 345 tablets or 501 tablets.
We are struggling to understand the thinking behind these product quantities.
We like the concept of a protein capsule rather than a powder because it does seem more convenientm but we are not overly impressed by Dymatize Super Amino Protein.
The problem is that compared to many protein powders, it does seem underpowered and in addition the protein used does not seem to be as good as quality as others on the market. We prefer whey protein isolate because it contains less fat and is purer than whey concentrate.
We like that the exact amino acid profile has been included, but although amino acids do wonderful things, it is important to remember that these are in the usual proteins we eat.
Overall Dymatize Super Protein Amino may be worth a try and is unlikely to cause too many adverse effects, but if you are serious about boosting your protein levels, you probably would do better in choosing a good quality powdered supplement.
Dymatize Super Protein Amino is a protein amino acid formula, that as the advertising claims, delivers the complete spectrum of amino acids that the body needs for health.
Amino acids make up 20% of the body and have been described as the building blocks of protein. Some of these we obtain from diet only and these are called essential amino acids. Others are made and stored in the body and are called non essential amino acids.
Amino acids make up a large proportion of our muscles, tissue and cells. They are important for the storage and transport of nutrients and also the functions of our organs. They all play slightly different roles in the body and we need them all.
We can get all the amino acids we need for health from a healthy mixed diet, but when it comes to building muscle and strength, many body builders and athletes look to amino acid supplements like this in order to achieve maximum strength and muscle.
Dymatize Super Protein comes in capsule form which is quite unusual as many protein supplements come as a powder that you mix into a health drink. This capsule form is convenient for some people but you do need to take 6 capsules a day for the recommended dose
Dymatize Super Protein Amino is very similar, if not identical to Dymatize Super Protein 6000 an earlier product. This supplement is still on sale as Super Protein Amino 6000 via Amazon UK, but no longer shows up on the official Dymatize website. It could be that Dymatize will eventually phase out this earlier named version.
Dymatize specialize in sports supplements and protein powders aimed at bodybuilders.
We covered Dymatize Dyma Burn Extreme in an earlier product review.
The product information explains how this supplement works,
“Dymatize® Super Protein Amino is a protein – amino acid formula delivering a complete spectrum of all proteinogenic amino acids. These essential and non-essential amino acids are the building blocks of protein.”
It advises you to continue with eating your normal protein and to use this product as a supplement and not a replacement to diet,
“In addition to the usual protein intake, the conveniently sized and easy to swallow tablets make it easy to top up your protein supply on the go and throughout the day.”
According to the product information there are four key features;
If you are looking to top up your protein, this supplement may help.
Protein supplements that contain amino acids have been a mainstay of the fitness and exercise supplement range for a very long time. Protein is essential for muscle building and repair, and this product may help this process if you already have a good nutritionally controlled diet.
However compared to protein powders, the serving sizes of amino acids are small, so you will probably get more bang for your buck if you choose a protein powder.
Serving size is equal to 1 x 3 capsule servings adding up to 2.9 g. You take 2 x servings a day so 5.8g or 6 capsules.
Most of the proteins are derived from dairy produce.
Whey protein concentrate is the most common form of whey protein and the least expensive, because it is a byproduct of cheese production. It is often used in bodybuilding and replacement meal supplements because it is a cheap and reasonably effective source of protein, but it does contain fat.
There is added rice protein and pea protein as well. The proteins provide the following amino acid profile. Figures refer to the serving size (1 x 3 capsule serving) and the daily serving (6 capsules).
BCAAs:
Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) are especially efficient at creating muscle mass while on a calorie restricted diet, and are available in food such as meat and eggs. Leucine plays an important role in muscle protein synthesis, while Isoleucine induces glucose uptake into cells. Valine is probably the least important but together these BCAAS may help supplement diet and benefit a training regime.
Other Amino Acids: These are present in the various forms of protein contained in this supplement,
Dymatize Super Amino contains branched-chain amino acids which are generally safe when taken by mouth at the correct dosage. Some side effects are known to occur, such as fatigue and loss of coordination. So the product should be used cautiously before or during activities where performance depends on motor coordination, such as driving.
There are no real problems with side effects with branched chain amino acids unless you have Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease), in which case don’t take any form of branched amino acids unless your doctor advises.
The formula contains lactose which could cause problems for users that are lactose intolerant.
Caution:
Not suitable for individuals under 18. Avoid if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Speak to your doctor first if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking prescription medication.
Because the product contains certain amino acids, it must not be taken by people suffering from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease).
There are many reviews for this product. They are generally favorable if a little non committal sometimes!
Many customers have complained about the size of the tablets.
I have a bought this bottle of amino acids several times, and I love it. I take two with my breakfast and two with my lunch. The pills are a little big, but if you take them with a glass full of water, you will not have any problems swallowing them (one first and the other one after the first one has gone down). This pills make you feel energize to do your workouts and the price is just fine. I recommend it to the people who needs supplements and who go to the gym regularly.
And,
Tablets WAY TOO BIG tablets are massive nearly choked on them twice.
Some customers are satisfied such as this reviewer,
As always very satisfied. I have been to use for many months. I’m so happy with the results; you can feel the differents in just a week…sure making exercises and good nutrition. Recommended 100%….You can buy without problem…:)
Some customers have not noticed any effects,
I use it every day after working out but don’t see a difference maybe results take months not weeks.
It seems unlikely. Although there may be money back guarantee if this product is purchased in the U.S.A, there is no mention of any guarantee on the UK/ European website
You can’t buy Dymatize Super Amino Protein direct from the Dymatize website. There is a list of stockists across Europe, and UK customers can buy from some sport supplement outlets or via Amazon where it is still sold under the old name of Super Amino Protein 600 at the time of writing,
