Biotest is a US company that specialises in supplements for serious athletes and the product website certainly has the right macho look with lots of pictures of muscle men as well as the actor Bradley Cooper in his role in American Sniper. We can almost feel the testosterone coming off the page but does this mean the supplements are any good?
Biotest Carbolin 19 is marketed as a bodybuilder supplement and the fact that it is expensive if bought via the Biotest website, could lead customers to believe it is effective. However this impression is misleading. The supplement contains only forskolin in low quantities and although limited clinical testing suggests this ingredient may help muscle building but amounts contained in Carbolin 19 seem too low to be effective.
Side effects may include lowered blood pressure, tachycardia and increased stomach acid. Biotest Carbolin 19 will cause drug interactions too so you need to check with your doctor before use if you are taking prescription medication.
Biotest Carbolin 19 is very expensive if you buy from the official website. In our opinion it is massively overpriced.
One bottle of 60 capsules (between 15 and 30 days supply) costs $99. There is a 10% reduction which seems to be a permanent offer, making the price $81.10.
However Biotest Carbolin 19 is also on sale via Amazon for the much cheaper price of $29.95.
We are not very impressed with Biotest Carbolin 19. The product information makes a lot of claims about how this supplement will help you gain and maintain muscle mass but there is no real evidence that it will act as described. Forskolin may be effective for numerous purposes but scientists agree that it does require further testing. Basing a supplement on one clinical test involving just 30 people, as here is very premature. The fact that Carbolin 19 does not even contain the equivalent amount of forskolin as used in the test makes this supplement look even more unlikely to work.
We are not keen on the advertising on the Biotest website. The product information goes down the ‘blinding the customer with science’ route, with overlong explanations, technical language about the composition of the capsules and more. In our opinion this is all designed to make a fairly ineffective and under strength supplements look special where in fact it is not.
The final point is that Biotest Carbolin 19 is massively overpriced, especially if you buy from the website because there is nothing about this supplement that merits a $99 price tag. In our opinion it is overpriced at the Amazon price of $29.00!
Biotest Carbolin 19 is described as an anabolic agent. This actually sounds quite scary but it just means that it is something that causes the body to increase metabolic function. Biotest Carbolin 19 is not an anabolic steroid – a drug that delivers a synthetic version of testosterone. The idea of Carbolin 19 is that it will cause the body to manufacture more testosterone and increase the speed of the metabolism as well as help the body build more muscle.
Biotest Carbolin 19 contains just one ingredient. This is forskolin, a chemical found in the roots of a plant called Coleus Forskoholii. Evidence suggests that forskolin may be effective for muscle building and increasing testosterone. There is also evidence that it may improve heart health by strengthening the muscles of the heart creating a more powerful heart beat.
Forskolin is popular in bodybuilding supplements and may have other medical benefits as well. It is currently being researched but at the time of writing, nothing is strictly proven.
Take 1 or 2 capsules in the morning. Take 1 or 2 capsules 6 hours later. Do not exceed 4 capsules within a 24-hour period.
Biotest is a US company that specialises in body-building supplements. Their latest claim to fame is that the actor Bradley Cooper who had to bulk up for his role in American Sniper used a Biotest supplement called Plazma.
However before we all rush out to buy Biotest supplements, Bradley Cooper also underwent a stringent training regime with a celeb personal trainer called Jason Walsh so it seems likely that his 37 lbs muscle gains were down to hard work (and the trainer) rather than the supplement alone. According to Jason Walsh, ‘Bradley never missed a workout. He came in early, trained brutally hard, and followed the supplement plan to the T. He showed a kind of dedication to his training that we seldom see with actors.’
We have covered Biotest before in previous reviews, including Hot Rox Extreme a bodybuilding supplement that promises hardcore fat loss but does not seem to live up to the claims. However the company looks reputable. We did some background checking and could find no negative reports of rip offs and Biotest is not operating any dodgy auto ship scams.
The Biotest Carbolin 19 product page is full of impressive sounding claims and technical sounding language. The supplement is described as an anabolic/lipotypic agent meaning it will cause fat burning and enhanced metabolism.
The sole ingredient is described as bio enhanced forskolin which sounds a whole lot more impressive than plain old forskolin. According to the product information purified forskolin is refined to pharmaceutical-grade standards and further refined it into a carbonate ester making it longer lasting. The carbonate increases bioavailability and is incorporated into a Self-Microemulsifying Nutrient Delivery System, which further enhances bioavailability.
In other words, it is stronger and longer lasting than regular forskolin.
There are four key features:
There are also a lot of explanations about how this supplement will help you, ‘bridge’ a body building term for building and retaining muscle mass.
The Biotest Carbolin 19 product information claims that this supplement is more effective than Anavar – an anabolic steroid sometimes used by bodybuilders. We find this unlikely.
Biotest Carbolin 19 will not work as dramatically as Anavar although it is, of course, much safer (and legal). However some customers have reported muscle gains and fat loss while using over time although some people have noticed no difference. It all comes down to the efficacy of forskolin. There is evidence that forskolin will increase muscle mass and testosterone but this is based on a small clinical test carried out over 12 weeks using 250 mg of 10% forskolin per day. The quantity of forskolin contained in Carbolin 19 is much lower than was used in clinical testing.
Scientific opinion is that forskolin requires more clinical testing.
Serving size is equal to one capsule.
The clinical test mentioned in the advertising was carried out on 30 men over a 12-week period:
It was shown to favourably alter body composition while concurrently increasing bone mass and serum free testosterone levels in overweight and obese men. The results indicate that forskolin is a possible therapeutic agent for the management and treatment of obesity.
The downside is that the dose of forskolin used in Carbolin 19 is much lower than the serving size used in the clinical test. The other issue is that the clinical test was very small.
There may be side effects to Biotest Carbolin 19 because there are some concerns about the safety of Forskolin the sole ingredient in this supplement.
Side effects may include:
Caution:
Not suitable for individuals under 18. Avoid if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Take medical advice before you use this supplement if you have an underlying medical condition or are taking prescription medication. Forskolin may cause drug interactions and is potentially dangerous for some people.
There are some customer reviews for Biotest Carbolin 19. Opinions are mixed.
Carbolin 19 works just as described. It’s not going to make you feel buzzed or get jacked in a week, but as it says, it will subtly improve your body composition and improve your recovery, so you can train just a little harder to get better results…
I get great pumps when I take this an hour before a workout.
Not convinced that anything happened other than stomach rumblings. Took for 60 days.
Didn’t notice this doing anything even with a strict diet and training protocol.
Saw no results with product.
