If you find yourself blowing steam and bowing out of your workout well before the burn has kicked in, you may want to turn to a pre-workout shake that can extend your performance, get you feeling pumped, and give you muscle gains. But will this supplement give you an apocalyptic boost, or just be a catastrophe? The Muscle Watchdog investigates.
Atomic Strength Nutrition Apocalypse boasts that it is the cleanest, long-lasting natural energy workout shake on the market.
They pride themselves on their fully disclosed formula which contains Creatine, Caffeine, and Beta-Alanine, among other ingredients, providing the benefit of helping to build muscle endurance and output, whilst boosting energy to help you reach your goals.
It contains various ingredients that are known to interact poorly depending on the user’s age, health, and general condition. They are largely mild effects such as upset stomach, bloating, and gas, but can affect low blood pressure medications and interact with other health conditions.
They do not state potential side effects or advise seeking medical advice before starting this supplement.
On the face of it, this product contains most of what we would expect to see in a pre-workout supplement. Stimulants, some endurance and strength boosters, and a few antioxidants to keep your body healthy and hydrated.
It is fairly well balanced with good doses of each, although some ingredients such as the Creatine are dosed slightly low. We also would not recommend putting Taurine and Beta-Alanine in the same formulation because they cancel each other out.
We do not recommend Atomic Strength Nutrition Apocalypse to our readers.
Started in 2013, there are now quite a few products in the Atomic Strength range, from protein shakes to pre/post workout supplements and prohormone boosters.
Apocalypse is part of the pre-workout range of products designed to aid maximum exercise performance when taken 30 minutes before.
They say it provides a clean energy from natural sources that will keep you working out for longer, as well as giving you muscle gains and strength.
Hydration is also key to the formulation to aid post-workout recovery, all in one blend to help you rise from mediocrity and smash your fitness goals.
Atomic Strength Nutrition Apocalypse is a pre-workout drink that claims to provide a clean, jitter-free energy, that will get you smashing through your workout and getting the results you want.
Containing a variety of scientific ingredients, they promise that it will keep you hydrated, help you achieve gains, and increase your power output and endurance.
The biggest strength of this product is perhaps the Creatine, which is the most researched and effective supplement on the market, but it might be dosed slightly lower here than we would expect. That’s not to say that it doesn’t also contain a few other ingredients that are thought to be beneficial to endurance and output, but they are less proven.
The caffeine will likely provide a boost but again, could have been dosed a little higher if it is included for muscle and strength increases. There are other stimulants in the formulation which may balance this out.
We think they should have left the Taurine out, though, as this could disrupt the greater potential benefits from the Beta-Alanine.
Whilst likely to be safe in the correct doses, there are some associated side effects with taking these ingredients. It is dependent on the user’s age, health, and condition, and what else they are consuming in their diet and through other supplements. Medical advice should be sought.
Do NOT consume more than 2 scoops in a 24-hour period. This product is not intended to treat or cure any disease. Store in a cool dry place. Some clumping is normal (due to the ingredient HydroMax) however exposure to heat and extreme sunlight, may lead to extreme clumping. Statements have not been verified or approved by the FDA.
Atomic Strength seems to have their long-term advocates who use many different products in their range. The main comments are centered around Apocalypse providing clean energy prior to a workout that made users perform better and last longer in the gym.
Some users said the bottle is too large and seems wasteful as the product inside is a lot less volume. Another said that when their bottle arrived it was already open. There have also been some comments about the product clumping due to moisture getting into it, and one reviewer was hesitant to use it.
Another commented that more flavours are needed as the range is limited currently.
One of the more generous returns policies in the industry, you get 90 days to return the product and if you are not satisfied, you can get a full money back refund. You will pay for postage to return it, however.
You can buy this product directly from Atomic Strength’s website for $49.99 and from a range of affiliates and wholesalers. Reviews may not be completely honest as promoters earn a commission from selling the products.
You may also find this product on third party retailers such as Amazon for around $42.
